About Stronger Together
The aim of the network is to encourage more people from black and other ethnic minority communities to be attracted to and retained in the professions in the Yorkshire region.
This is the first time that the top accounting firms and largest six law firms have collaborated locally on the challenges around racial diversity, inclusion and equity. We want to play a big part in bringing this network to life.

Stronger Together hosts Interfaith discussion
To coincide with UN Interfaith Harmony week, over 100 people attended a Stronger Together network discussion, hearing from a distinguished panel of speakers who discussed what their faith meant to them and how it has impacted their professional careers.
Hosted by Sarah Day (tag) and expertly moderated by Srishti Menon, we collectively explored the role of faith in the workplace with the aim of fostering a culture of peace, harmony, open dialogue and mutual respect.
Thanks to Pavitar Bhullar, Sarah Day, Sohail Ali, Lynette Jacobs, James Coultate-Cowie for sharing your stories so openly and honestly. It was a powerful discussion to listen and learn from and feedback was overwhelmingly positive, describing the panel as ‘positive’, ‘moving’ and ‘uplifting’.
A common thread was how faith was their moral compass and enabled them to be the best version of themselves, giving a huge sense of perspective despite the challenges of a career in professional services. As well as the importance of allyship, having a safe space, bravery and being the change you want to see, all sparked lots of interesting conversations around what adjustments we as individuals as well as our firms can make to enable people to bring their whole selves to work and be the best versions of themselves.
Thanks to DLA for hosting in their new offices and Aliya Waid and Uzair Patel and the team for organising.
Stronger Together Iftar
During the holy month Ramadan, fasting Muslims around the world break their fast with a meal at sunset, known as “Iftar”. Traditionally this involves gathering with family, friends or members of the community.
In light of this holy month, last night, members of our Executive Committee and Junior Committee got together for Iftar meal at MyLahore Restaurants, Leeds.
Hamza Shabir, a Manager at PwC and member of the Stronger Together JCo, who organised the Iftar said:
“Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, increased devotion, and acts of charity. It is a beautiful time of community, appreciation and gratitude and it was great to break our fast and come together with Stronger Together colleagues in spirit of this. We were also joined by a number of ally colleagues who came along to demonstrate their support to practicing Muslims and learn more about the holy month.”
Our Mentor Programme
The Stronger Together network has launched a cross-firm mentor programme of over 100 people to share collective experiences of equality and diversity challenges, and more importantly, approaches and ideas to overcome those barriers. By giving greater access and visibility of role models and mentors locally, this will help achieve greater inclusion and equality within the professional services sector in the region. Please get in touch if you’d like to find out more.
There are also planned recruitment initiatives to engage with the local education network, particularly at school leaver level to showcase the diverse range of career opportunities within professional services.
